Last minute Halloween Costumes

styling black turtleneck for halloween

Happy spooky week y’all ~ so we’ve all been there right? Halloween creeps up on us (pun fully intended). I know there are some people who absolutely love the holiday and plan for it a year in advance and make it a whole month event for themselves but I also think this year might be a bit different. First year “post covid” (but not really either like should we focus on being characters who wear masks or maybe we can all be hospital patients from a zombie apocalypse movie?) you could be in a place where you’re making up for not really having Halloween last year or you have absolutely no clue who to be or how to behave (sounds like my during existential crises).

I mean my friend Courtney who is usually OBSESSED with Halloween doesn’t even have her costume figured out yet. That’s how you know it’s bad. I’m on the other side of things where I’m the king of last minute, pull what you have, maybe buy an accessory, type of costumes. I also don’t think it’s very sustainable to be buying different costumes every year that you either leave around the house or throw out (hopefully you’re donating the ones you don’t use anymore!)

Styling Halloween Costumes

So I thought I’d share with y’all some iconic looks that you can recreate last minute with just one item and things you already have in your closet.

The star of the show is a black turtleneck. I want to say it’s a pretty staple piece to have in your closet.

PSA: These costumes are gender-neutral (the Sharon Tate is the only one with a skirt but hey boys don’t let that stop you! If you’re feeling it, send it)

Steve Jobs

He was the king of the basic, looking like he’s a cartoon character because he only wore one outfit seemingly all his life vibe. Just pair your black turtleneck with boyfriend jeans, some sneakers, throw on clear lens glasses and carry your iPhone around presenting it to anyone you talk to like it’s the hottest thing ever. Bonus points for those who kept their old iPods/iPhones.

Sharon Tate by Margot Robbie

Once Upon a Hollywood was iconic and don’t we all kind of wish we could be Margot just for a day? Wear a mini skirt and knee-high boots with a crossbody bag and look at everything with wide-open eyes (like you’ve seen the world for the first time) to nail this iconic and super cute look.

The Rock

This iconic look of The Rock from the 90s is easy to recreate with a gold chain, blue jeans and a fanny pack. Fill it with pop tarts and condoms in true The Rock fashion (honestly great to have during Halloween).

Audrey Hepburn from Funny Face

She’s an icon and this outfit is the easiest. All you need is black pants, some comfy black shoes you can dance in and some redish/pinkish lipstick. If you want to go a little further, learn some bohemian dance moves and figure out how to fake bangs.

Draco Malfoy

A fun and classic one. Pair your turtleneck with black pants, a black blazer and black leather shoes. Add some eyeshadow under your eyes to create bags and don’t forget your wand (I totally used a lipliner). Bonus: yell at people that your father will be hearing about this.

Which outfit would you go for? Do you have any other ideas for characters you can dress as with a black turtleneck? Comment below!

Until next time,

Stay present in the now and have fun on Halloween~
